About this item: The 2976 Chelsea boot by Dr. Martens is constructed for comfort with the iconic Dr. Martens air-cushioned sole. It is Goodyear-welted, meaning the upper and sole are sewn together in the heat-sealed z-welt stitch, ensuring durability and quality. The boot also offers good abrasion and slip resistance, making it suitable for various terrains.
Lined with warm faux fur, the 2976 Chelsea boot retains essential Doc DNA, including the distinctive yellow stitching, grooved sides, and heel loop. This boot is built with the same toughness, fit, and ease of use as its Victorian predecessors, combined with killer style.
Made with highly durable leather, the 2976 sits on an AirWair sole that is oil and fat resistant, providing excellent abrasion and slip resistance. Additionally, Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam can be used to protect the leather and keep the boots clean, soft, and supple.
Dr. Martens is a legendary brand that has been known for its innovative footwear since its beginnings near Munich, Germany. The iconic air-cushioned sole was first designed by Dr. Klaus Maertens after he injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps in 1945. To make walking easier during the healing process, he created a shoe with an air-cushioned sole using old rubber tires.
After showing his prototype to his friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, the two decided to develop and produce the shoes. The shoes not only solved the doctor's immediate problem but also began to sell well in Germany. In 1959, they decided to expand production and distribution to other parts of the world. Despite initial rejection by many manufacturers, the R. Griggs Group in England decided to create the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. The first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced on April 1, 1960, and named 1460. To better market the brand in England, the name was changed to Dr. Martens and the range branded as AirWair. The rest is history.
